In today’s health care market, there is an increased awareness of wound incidence, whether pressure ulcers, dehisced surgical wounds, or diabetic foot ulcers. In this current Health Care system there is a need for wound care services aimed at accessing wound care experts, coordinating, and managing the wound care needs of patients in Rehab Centers, Home Health agencies, and Specialty Hospitals. In 2008 75% of every dollar in health care was spent on chronic illnesses, wound care cost accounted for more than five Billion dollars. In the San Antonio area there are approximately one hundred Rehabilitation Centers, 400 Home Health agencies, and tens of Specialty Hospitals, respectively national statistics show 23%, 18%, and 12% of patients having wounds. In San Antonio, having a 75%-80% Hispanic population, with 20-25% of this population testing positive for diabetes, makes it a contributing factor to having a higher percentage than the national average. San Antonio is well known and respected nationally for its treatment and research in hyperbaric oxygen, currently there is an opportunity and a need to do the same in wound care.

The results from a recent market survey, in our primary target market; (Rehabilitation centers, Home Health, and Specialty Hospitals) directed the company to its current strategy. At this point only a handful of entities nationally are focusing on providing this type of wound care service. After conducting our market survey we came to the conclusion that this type of wound care service currently, does not exist in the San Antonio area. At present, what does exist in San Antonio is a fragmented process which is not what our target market is in search of. For this reason our company distinguishes itself by offering this service, using qualified doctors, and nurses (for treatment, management, and the coordination of wound care).
In April 2009 the concept of organizing a service whereby, Rehab Centers, Home Health agencies, and Specialty Hospitals, could afford to access wound care specialists came together. Dr. Bill Naime, the Director of wound care services has spent 12 years in wound care working with home health agencies, Rehab centers, and specialty hospitals. During this time the need for prevention, treatment, and the appropriate management of the wound care patient became increasingly evident.
Entrepreneurial in spirit with a solid track record for business development Dr. Naime set out to develop and organize the company. While Dr. Naime consulted with, Rehab Centers, Home health agencies, and Specialty Hospitals, he researched the accessibility and feasibility of providing wound care services, products, and experts. This information became the basis in the planning and development of the company.
